# Minimal nic salts, a flavour map of the Fuu range

> Minimal nic salts by Fuu, recipe by recipe, sorted into tobacco, mint, fruit and dessert, plus what the 50/50 salt format changes to the flavour.

Thirty-odd recipes in 10 ml bottles, names that point sometimes to a fruit (Grape, Granny) and sometimes to a temperament (Le Robuste, Le Téméraire), and product blurbs that often run to three words. Faced with a shelf of **Minimal nic salts**, picking at random is tempting. The Paris range from Fuu follows a fairly clear flavour logic all the same, provided you read it by family rather than by name.

## Minimal nic salts, what the Fuu range actually offers

**Minimal nic salts** are the nicotine salt range from Fuu, a Paris producer that many shops list as The Fuu. The recipes come in 10 ml bottles at 50/50 (PG/VG), built for pod kits and mouth to lung vaping, and each one is made in five strengths, 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mg/ml.

That spread fits British rules without any adjustment. Nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20 mg/ml in the UK and sold in bottles of 10 ml at most, while refillable pods and tanks are limited to 2 ml.

Fuu sorts its own catalogue into four families, seven classics (its word for tobacco recipes), three fresh, fifteen fruity and four desserts. That makes twenty-nine recipes, plus one flagged as end of range.

It is a French range rather than a fixture of the British high street. The few UK shops that carry it tend to use the English names Fuu gives on its own English pages, and that is the convention followed here.

According to Fuu, everything is made at its own facility in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, without sucralose. The flavour descriptions below are the producer's own, grouped and compared by us.

## The classics, a tobacco ladder from dry to round

The tobacco family is the most structured part of the catalogue. Five recipes sit on an intensity ladder, and two hybrids connect it to the other families.

At the bottom, L'Universel is described as a light tobacco with warm, balanced notes, and Classic as blond, dry and toasted. Tough and Le Robuste go up a step, the first powerful yet balanced, the second full-bodied and powerful. Le Téméraire turns off towards a reddish tobacco, round, with sweet notes.

Classique Mint pairs blond tobacco with a fresh finish, Classique Berry pairs tobacco with berries. They are the obvious way into the fresh and fruity families for anyone starting from tobacco.

## Fresh, three steps of mint and cold

The fresh family is short, but its three recipes cover distinct intensities. Mint is billed as refreshing and Polar as ice mint, which puts Polar a notch higher on the cold scale.

Pastèque Ice is the only one pairing a fruit with a frosted effect, a construction explained in our piece on [what an icy finish does to a fruit like dragon fruit](/uk/black-dragon-ice-vape/). Freshness also spills beyond this family, since it turns up in Classique Mint, Frosted Punch, Fraise Bleue and Yucatan.

## The fruity recipes, fifteen bottles sorted into three groups

With fifteen references, the fruity side of **Minimal nic salts** cannot be read in one go. Cross-checking the stated compositions, three groups emerge, depending on whether there is a cooling effect and which fruit leads.

### Fruit with a cool edge

Frosted Punch combines apple, mango, blackcurrant and peach with a frosty finish, and sits among the producer's best sellers over the past twelve months. Fraise Bleue joins strawberry and blackcurrant with a fresh note, while Yucatan blends grape, red fruits and cactus with a touch of freshness.

### Blackcurrant and red fruits

Mocktail is presented as a cocktail style mix of pomegranate, raspberry and blackcurrant. Berry Lemonade pairs blackcurrant with lime, and Goyave Bleue matches guava with red fruits.

Blackcurrant is the quiet thread running through the range, present in four recipes (Frosted Punch, Fraise Bleue, Mocktail and Berry Lemonade). Anyone who enjoys it in one has a good chance of liking it in the other three.

### Single fruits and simple blends

Granny is a simple, juicy green apple, Grape a realistic grape flavour, Fruit du Dragon a soft and exotic dragon fruit, Coconut a fresh coconut and Pêché Mignon a juicy peach with a touch of apricot. Zest is a citrus blend, Fruity Medley a mix of juicy summer fruits.

Two last recipes play in a clearly sweeter register, a berry syrup on one side and a sour lime with notes of cola on the other.

## Desserts, four recipes built around vanilla cream

Three of the four desserts share the same base. Vanilla is described as a French vanilla, Mille-feuilles as vanilla cream with buttered pastry and a sprinkling of nuts.

Liégeois adds dark chocolate, coffee and a touch of "classic", the producer's word for its tobacco recipes, to a vanilla cream. It mirrors Le Téméraire, which travels the other way, from tobacco towards dessert. Biscotti stands apart as a crusty biscuit with light sesame notes, and ranks among the best sellers.

## Nic salts at 50/50, what the format changes to the flavour

A nicotine salt binds nicotine to an acid, benzoic acid in the case of Fuu. According to the producer, the throat hit is softer than with freebase nicotine at the same strength.

The recipes are designed for a pod kit or a mouth to lung tank, usually with a coil above 1 ohm, which a 50/50 liquid wicks well. Judging one recipe on different kit skews any comparison with the rest of the range.

The stated absence of sucralose also matters to pod users. That sweetener is often blamed for gunking up wicks, a process we explain in our look at [caramel profiles and what they do to coils](/uk/caramel-e-liquid/).

## Which Minimal nic salts to start with

Rather than starting from the names, start from the family you already know. A few pointers make it possible to choose a first bottle of **Minimal nic salts** without opening several for nothing.

- For a light, dry tobacco, L'Universel, then Classic for toasted notes.
- For a denser tobacco, Tough or Le Robuste.
- For a rounder tobacco leaning towards dessert, Le Téméraire, then Liégeois from the other side.
- For mint, Mint first, then Polar if the cold is not enough.
- For fruit with a cool edge, Frosted Punch or Fraise Bleue, which share blackcurrant.
- For a single fruit without cold, Granny, Grape or Pêché Mignon.
- For dessert, Vanilla as a base, Mille-feuilles for a pastry version.

Anyone still hesitating can start from the five recipes Fuu lists as its best sellers over twelve months, Frosted Punch, Classic, Polar, Tough and Biscotti. Between them they cover all four families.

## FAQ

The questions that come up most about the range, beyond the flavour map above.

### Are Minimal nic salts available without nicotine?

Yes. Every 10 ml recipe comes in 0 mg/ml. Nine recipes also exist as 50 ml shortfills in a 60 ml bottle, sold nicotine-free, which Fuu suggests topping up with a nicotine shot to reach about 3.3 mg/ml.

### Can these e-liquids go in a sub-ohm tank?

Fuu advises against it. A sub-ohm setup vaporises far more liquid and is meant for low strengths and bases richer in glycerine, which matches neither the strengths nor the ratio of this range.

### What does the AFNOR certification cover?

The salt range has held a certificate from AFNOR Certification, the certification arm of the French standards body, since 5 March 2020, under the voluntary XP D90-300-2 standard. Fuu states that it is renewed every year after an audit. It is a French scheme, separate from the notification rules that apply to nicotine e-liquids in Britain.

### Why do French shops use different names?

The French pages of the producer keep the original names. Polar is sold as Glacial in France, Tough as Puissant and Frosted Punch as Fruits frais, with the same compositions behind each label.

### Is Red Aniseed still part of the range?

This red fruit, menthol and aniseed recipe still appears on the range page, but marked as end of range. It no longer features in the family breakdown published by the producer.

## Reading Minimal nic salts by family rather than by name

The Fuu range reads in two steps. First identify the family, tobacco, fresh, fruity or dessert, then look within it for the intensity or the shared note that suits you, such as blackcurrant among the fruits or vanilla cream among the desserts.

The method works for any range built by a single lab, [Fighter Fuel and its pomegranate backbone](/uk/fighter-fuel-range/) included. With **Minimal nic salts**, it mostly stops you judging a whole family on a single bottle when the gaps in intensity are real.
